Cobra The Arcade (コブラ・ザ・アーケード Kobura・Za・Ākēdo?) is a rail shooter video game developed and published by Namco. It is based on the late Buichi Terasawa's manga Cobra and the TV series Space Cobra, but with an original story.

Gameplay[]

Like the Time Crisis series, Cobra The Arcade uses a foot pedal to take cover and reload the gun. Like Time Crisis II and Time Crisis 3, it uses the same "crisis flash" system for all life-threatening shots. One life unit is lost if the player is hit by a crisis shot or an obstacle, or if the timer reaches zero. If a continue is used after all life units are lost, the score resets to 0.

Psycho-Gun[]

This game introduces a new weapon called the Psycho-Gun. To use it, players hold the trigger which causes a green crosshair to appear. They then target the enemy while holding the trigger. Once the trigger is released, the Psycho-shot will be fired, hitting any targeted enemies. While usage is unlimited, the maximum number of targets that can be locked initially is three (can be increased to eight with upgrades) and does not cause a greater increase to multiplier gauge if multiple shots are locked on the same target because it registers only as one hit. The color of the lock on is green for damage shot and orange for kill shot but can change from green to orange during multiple lock on to the same target if the amount of damage done by the Psycho-Gun exceeds the enemy life endurance.

The Psycho-Gun can be upgraded by earning Psycho-Points from destroying enemies, defeating bosses and remaining life units (at 1,000 points per life unit). Meeting each Psycho-Points quota gives one level upgrade point. These upgrade points can be used for any of the three upgrade types: Max Lock, Power and Hit scan. Max Lock increases maximum targets that can be locked on. Power increase the "Psycho-Gun" attack per hit. Hit scan increases lock on scope area. The maximum level of each upgrade type is 5.

Psycho-Gun Card[]

This game introduces a card system called the Psycho-Gun Card. It records the player achievements, story progress and upgrades to the Psycho-Gun. Players do not require to use it unless they want to play the last two stories and the other modes (only Normal Mode is available from the start).

Scoring[]

Different from the Time Crisis games, this game has a multiplier effect similar to Virtua Cop and Virtua Cop 3 which multiplies the amount of points earned per hit and is determined by a gauge on the top left corner of the screen. The gauge increases for every no-miss shot, goes up to x16 (identical to Virtua Cop 3) and requires more hits per successive multiplier increase. It depletes if no hits are made over time (except during WAIT sequences and if completely depleted does not affect the multiplier), resets to x1 if a miss shot is made (similar to Time Crisis II and Time Crisis 3 no-miss combo system) and decreases by x1 is a life unit is lost. E.g. A x16 multiplier effect gives at least 1,600 (100 x 16) points per hit regardless of weapon used.

For shots on foot soldiers on a x1 multiplier, the kill shot is worth 300, 400 or 600 points with each chase shot worth 100 points. Like Time Crisis II and Time Crisis 3, each shot and wounded foot soldier, if shot by regular shots, can be shot two more times with those additional shots called chase shots. Using the Psycho-Gun prevents chase shots.

For shots on bosses on a x1 multiplier, each non-stun or non-kill shot is worth 100 points. Each stun shot is worth 1,000 points. The kill shot on Gypsydog is worth 5,000 points. The kill shot on Cyberwolf, Crystal Bowie during his first encounter and on each Executioner is each worth 10,000 points. The kill shot on Turvage and Ironhead is each worth 15,000 points. No bonus points are awarded for the kill shot on Zoros and on the Ultimate Weapon. The kill shot on King Babel and Black Sheep is each worth 20,000 points. The kill shot on Crystal Bowie during his second encounter is worth 30,000 points.

Enemy And Boss Endurance, Weakpoints[]

Like Time Crisis 3, enemies which require multiple hits to kill or destroy have yellow or green lifebars. For bosses, they have two types of lifebars in similar fashion to The House of the Dead III. The big green lifebar on the top right corner of the screen represents the boss' overall life while the small green lifebar on top of the boss' head represents cancel bar which stuns the boss when depleted to zero (the exception being Black Sheep, which like the final attack phase of Wheel of Fate from The House of the Dead III, has its overall life pegged to the cancel bar meaning that depleting the cancel bar to zero destroys it). For the boss, if a small lifebar is not shown, the boss is invulnerable but the player can continue shooting at the boss while at that mode to earn more points.

Like the bosses from the House of the Dead series, some of the bosses have weakpoints or cannot be hit by the Psycho-shot. Examples are Crystal Bowie during the first encounter in Story 1 Area 2 and the first half of the boss fight in Story 5 Area 2 (weakpoint is the head and Psycho-shot cannot be used because "Psycho-shot reflected!"), Turvage (weakpoint is the upper half of body and Psycho-shot cannot be used because "lock on not active!"), Ironhead (while she does not have a specific weakpoint, her shield blocks all types of shots), King Babel (along with the Sword People, weakpoint is his sword but Psycho-shot can be used) and Black Sheep (weakpoint is the energy core but cannot be shot until close up which will also show its lifebar).

Game Modes[]

This game has four modes: Normal, Eternal, Burst and Extreme. Each mode has five stories comprising of two areas each.

Normal Mode[]

In Normal Mode, the first three stories can be played in any order. The fourth story can only be played once the first three stories are completed and the fifth story can only be played when the first four stories from both Cobra and Lady sides are completed. Completing all stories from both Cobra and Lady sides unlocks Eternal Mode.

Once each story is completed, all Psycho-Points accumulated in that story are recorded. Also, players must insert credits if they want to continue to the next story regardless of number of remaining life units.

Eternal Mode[]

In Eternal Mode, the gameplay is the same as Normal Mode except it is more difficult and starts from story 1. Once each story is completed, it continues to the next one without the need to insert credit. All cutscenes except one are omitted (they can be skipped in Normal Mode) with loading screens shown instead after every area is completed. Default life unit setting is three and will not be replenished after every story is completed. Completing all stories from both Cobra and Lady sides unlocks Burst Mode.

Burst Mode[]

In Burst Mode, the gameplay and scoring are the same as Normal Mode but the Psycho-shot cannot be used and damage output for each normal shot is doubled. Once each story is completed, it continues to the next one without the need to insert credit. However, the score is reset to 0 and life units are replenished to default amount at the start of the next story. Completing all stories from both Young Cobra (strangely, the Psycho-Gun is shown and the only unskippable cutscene in Story 5 Area 2 shows the Older Cobra) and Emeralda (Lady's actual name) sides unlocks Extreme Mode.

Extreme Mode[]

In Extreme Mode, the gameplay and scoring are the same as Eternal Mode but the difficulty is much higher.

Time Bonus[]

Like Time Crisis II and Time Crisis 3, this game gives time bonus at 20 points for every 1/60 second saved which is calculated by taking the difference between time spent and maximum time per area.

Maximum Amount Of Time Per Area
Area Cobra/Lady Side (in seconds)

Story 1 Area 2 231
Story 2 Area 1
Story 2 Area 2
Story 3 Area 1
Story 3 Area 2

Story 1: Shadow of Casino Tower[]

Known as () (てん) (ろう) (かげ) (Matenrou no Kage) in the Japanese version.

The story starts with Cobra and Lady heading to a casino tower in an air bike. However, their movements have been tracked by the Pirate Guild. Gypsydog, the casino owner and a member of the Pirate Guild, decides to send soldiers to lay an ambush. Upon Cobra and Lady's entry into the casino, the Pirate Guild soldiers ambushed them, causing Cobra to remove his prosthetic left arm (revealing the Psycho-Gun).

After fighting through all the enemies, Cobra and Lady arrived at a lobby where they barely dodged a hand grenade. Gypsydog then appears, commenting that Cobra "has been considerably bothering the Pirate Guild". After Cobra said that "maybe the Pirate Guild hates him", Gypsydog decides that "it is time to end such an attitude" and sends a female cyborg called Cyberwolf to kill him. Despite Cyberwolf's speed and firepower along with Gypsydog's intervention, she is destroyed after taking too much damage. After Cyberwolf is destroyed, Cobra and Lady continue heading to an elevator. Unknown to them, Gypsydog is hiding behind a pillar, poised to place a surprise shot on Cobra. Just as Gypsydog is about to shoot Cobra, Jane Royal kills him via a well placed shot to the chest.

Surprised about Jane's presence, Cobra thought that "Jane is here because he set up a date". Soon after, Pirate Guild soldiers arrive (which is noted by Lady) and start attacking, forcing Cobra, Lady and Jane to retreat into an elevator (but not before Cobra throws his cigar away which is actually an explosive set to blow in 10 minutes).

After defeating more enemies and destroying helicopters while on the way up via elevator; Cobra, Lady and Jane arrive at the roof where all the searchlights light up; causing a humanoid with glass body, golden bones and head, and a hook on his right arm to be partially hidden. Cobra fires the Psycho-Gun only to have the shot deflected from the humanoid. Cobra immediately recognises the humanoid as Crystal Bowie who in turn says that "Cobra performed great but does not mean that he can escape". Soon after, Crystal Bowie engages Cobra and Lady in battle. Despite Crystal Bowie's body reflecting all Psycho-shots, his effective usage of his hook which can fire bullets (destroying a helicopter to eliminate any escape) and energy projectiles (destroying part of a nearby building), and can be used as a ranged or close weapon; he is defeated.

After the battle, Crystal Bowie corners Cobra, Lady and Jane at the helicopter landing pad, causing them to jump down from it. When Crystal Bowie moves forward while claiming such move from them is stupid, the Turtle (Cobra's spaceship) appears with Cobra announcing that he is escorting Jane and that he does not have time to "play" with Crystal Bowie. While Crystal Bowie looks on, the timer on the discarded cigar reaches zero, causing multiple explosions to engulf him and destroy the casino tower.

In the epilogue, it is revealed that Jane has a tattoo engraved on her back which shows a map of Nelson's hidden treasure. In addition, the Pirate Guild is moving in for the hidden treasure as well.

Story 2: Sneaking into the Underground Base[]

Known as () () () () への (せん) (にゅう) (Chikakichi he'no Sen'nyuu) in the Japanese version.

Japanese version English version Remarks
隱されし財宝の鍵を握るジェーンとその二人の妹。次女のキャサリン救出を依頼されたコブラたちは惑星ダグザートへ向かう。 JANE and her two sisters are the key to hidden treasure. To rescue Jane's sister Catherine, COBRA and LADY are on the way to planet DAGZARD. Opening lines. The word "Catherine" is misspelled in-game as "Catharine".

The story starts in the one of the control rooms of Sid Penitentiary. After Cobra neutralised a guard, Lady works on a control panel in an attempt to pinpoint the location of Catherine Royal's room and accidentally activates the security system. Immediately, Cobra calmly removes his prosthetic left arm and along with Lady runs out of the control room, saying that "it is only matter of time before they start shooting each other".

After dealing with the security system which includes Pirate Guild soldiers, guards on airlifts, laser traps, sentries, a huge monster and a cannon, Cobra and Lady arrived at the main control room where Lady works on a computer to continue pinpointing Catherine's room. Feeling curious, Cobra moves towards a chamber and wipes the mist off, revealing a female cyborg with blonde hair. Almost immediately, the female cyborg opens her blue eyes and burst out of the chamber to attack Cobra. When Lady tried to help him, she is attacked by another female cyborg. After a minor scuffle which Cobra broke free from a neck-lock and Lady blocked a flying kick, the female cyborgs introduce them as the Executioners. Soon after, they engage Cobra and Lady in battle. Despite the Executioners' speed and strength; they are defeated with the one in black hair shut down and the one in blonde hair electrocuted until she exploded. After the battle, Lady continued working on the computer and eventually pinpoints Catherine's room.

With the location of Catherine's room secured, Cobra and Lady immediately head there on hover bikes where Cobra destroys two sentries with his Psycho-Gun followed by Lady firing a pistol at the source powering a force field. While Catherine is rescued, guards on airlifts unfortunately arrived, forcing Cobra, Lady and Catherine to escape the penitentiary with the guards on hot pursuit.

After defeating more guards, destroying sentries and even two "elephant" spaceships; Cobra, Lady and Catherine have reached near the exit where Turvage, a magician with three reflective satellites, awaits them at the exit. Cobra fires the Psycho-Gun only to have the shot deflected by the reflective satellites and it hitting the hover bikes, throwing Cobra, Lady and Catherine off them. Turvage then proclaims that he cannot be killed because the three reflective satellites reflect all energy beams before firing a seed on Catherine to mind control her. Soon after, Turvage engages Cobra and Lady in battle. Despite Turvage being immune to all Psycho-shots; having huge reach ability from his plant-like arms to execute slash attacks; ability to fire mind control seeds; able to use the reflective satellites to fire lighting bolts; and having the support of mind controlled Catherine, Pirate Guild soldiers and guards on airlifts, he is defeated and falls off a cliff to his death which in turn ends his mind control on Catherine. After the battle, it is revealed by Catherine that her sister Dominique is in planet Reuluge.

In the epilogue, Cobra and Lady head to planet Reuluge where Dominique Royal is held by the Snow Gorilla, a gang comprising of women.

Story 3: Battle in the Snowy Land[]

Known as (ぎん) () (かい) での (こう) (ぼう) (Ginsekai de no Koubou) in the Japanese version.

Japanese version English version Remarks
キャサリンから、三女のドミニクがスノウ・ゴリラに捕まったことを聞かされたゴリラたちは敵基地のあるルールジュ星に向かう。 CATHERINE told that her sister DOMINIQUE is captured by SNOW GORILLA. COBRA and LADY are on the way to planet REULUGE. Opening lines. The word "Catherine" is misspelled in-game as "Catharine".

The story starts in the Turtle over the skies of the Snow Gorilla base. After Cobra gives his assurance to Catherine that he will rescue Dominique, he and Lady set off to the Snow Gorilla base on space bikes. On the way, they have to deal with Snow Gorilla aerial soldiers before having to face off against a space carrier which is armed with missile launchers, a massive laser cannon along with two small beam cannons at the front, six Vulcan cannon turrets at the top, hangars containing small spaceships and sentries and cargo bays containing Snow Gorilla foot and aerial soldiers. Despite a difficult fight, Cobra and Lady managed to destroy the space carrier.

Soon after the space carrier destruction, barracuda-like spaceships appear along with Ironhead, a female golden cyborg equipped with a sword and shield, riding on one of them. Saying that "Cobra is a cool guy but killing him gives her the greatest pleasure", Ironhead engages Cobra and Lady in battle. Despite Ironhead's speed in executing close-range sword slashes, her shield blocking all types of shots (she ditches it at some point), her ability to summon sword projectiles as ranged attacks and barracuda-like spaceships using ramming attacks or firing projectiles; she is defeated with her head cracking before exploding. Cobra, while watching the space carrier fall, commented that it is ridiculous that Ironhead has nothing but a head before continuing heading along with Lady to the Snow Gorilla base. In the Snow Gorilla base, Sandra, leader of the Snow Gorilla, boasted that "the fool who comes to rescue Dominique is going to be killed" and proclaims that "Dominique is the next to die". Just as the Snow Gorilla soldiers are to kill Dominique, two Psycho-shots are fired at those holding her, killing them. In the ensuing commotion, Cobra crashes in from above, much to Sandra's surprise when she sees the Psycho-Gun.

With Dominique rescued by Cobra and Lady, they make their escape with the Snow Gorilla soldiers on hot pursuit. After defeating more soldiers and destroying spaceships, Cobra, Lady and Dominique arrived at an ice cave which Cobra finds it weird that the Snow Gorilla are not pursuing them. Lady immediately warns Cobra of danger when the ice above him starts cracking followed by Zoros showing glowing red eyes. Immediately, Cobra calmly removes his prosthetic left arm which is followed by Zoros crashing in from the ice and ready to attack. After a difficult fight which Cobra and Lady have to deal with Zoros' firepower (comprising of beam cannons and missile launchers on his back, his mouth which can fire bullets and breathe out fire), strength (able to hit hard at close range), speed (able to use dash quickly and is increased once enough damage is received) and surprise (able to burrow underground before popping out for a hit); Zoros is defeated and is killed by the collapsing ice.

With the three Royal sisters in Cobra's hands, Cobra proudly believes that he can meet Captain Nelson's treasure. However, Dominique is surprised that her sisters did not tell Cobra what the hidden treasure is. When Lady subsequently said that she and Cobra only heard that the location of the treasure is known when all the tattoos are collected, Dominique replied that Captain Nelson did not leave a treasure. Instead, he left an ultimate weapon delivered to the Ancient Martian. This revelation surprises Cobra.

In the epilogue, Cobra, Lady and Dominique head to the location of the Ultimate Weapon. Unfortunately, the Pirate Guild seems to be ahead of them.

Story 4: The Treasure's Secret[]

Known as (ざい) (ほう) () (みつ) (Zaihou no Himitsu) in the Japanese version.

Japanese version English version Remarks
隱されし財宝が“最終兵器”であることを知ったゴリラたちは、ギルドの手から守るべくドミニクと砂の惑星ザドスへ向かう。 The hidden treasure was the ULTIMATE WEAPON. To protect this treasure from pirate guild, COBRA, LADY and DOMINIQUE are on the way to Planet ZADOS. Opening lines

The story starts in the Turtle heading to planet Zados. While on the way, Dominique asks Cobra on what he is going to do with the Ultimate Weapon once he finds it and suggests the idea of Cobra using it to be the emperor of the universe. Though Cobra does not think it is a bad idea, he secretly knows that whoever has the Ultimate Weapon will be able to dominate the universe and this includes the Pirate Guild. Hence, he will personally find and destroy the Ultimate Weapon. Soon, the Turtle arrives near the location of the Ultimate Weapon which is inside a pyramid at planet Zados.

Cobra, Lady and Dominique get off the Turtle and head inside the pyramid. Inside the pyramid, Cobra and Lady have to deal with the Sword People (pyramid inhabitants whose swords can be used as a close weapon or can generate waves from a distance), Snow Gorilla foot and aerial soldiers (who arrive rather quickly), robotic fish and two gigantic ancient statues (which can fire lasers from their eyes, fire bullets from their fists, slam their staffs to create ground explosions or use them as close weapons). Despite the odds, they persevered and make it to the throne chamber.

Entering the throne chamber, Cobra feels that the Ultimate Weapon should be around there. Suddenly, all the fires inside are lit, revealing King Babel who rises from his throne seat saying that he will honorably fight those "insects" who enter Zados. After a difficult fight which Cobra and Lady have to deal with King Babel summoning Sword People inside the throne chamber to assist him, King Babel using his sword as a close weapon (either as a slash or to destroy pillars) or generate multiple waves from a distance, able to use psychic power to levitate objects before hurling them and able to become invisible by positioning the hilt so that the facial carving is around the head; King Babel is killed, the hilt being blasted and most of the facial carving gone. With King Babel killed, Cobra and Lady continue heading forward when a shot is fired which barely misses Cobra. When Cobra and Lady turned back, they find Sandra holding Dominique at gunpoint.

Cobra, surprised to see Sandra, asks whether she suffered from travelling from all the way from planet Reuluge just to chase him. Sandra replies that he bought into her plans before entering the secret chamber containing the Ultimate Weapon, causing a wall to block the secret chamber. Cobra then exclaims that Sandra will "get a spanking" from him if he catches her. Soon, the throne chamber starts collapsing.

While escaping from the collapsing pyramid, Cobra and Lady have to deal with Snow Gorilla foot and aerial soldiers, robotic fish, two gigantic ancient statues which can fire lasers, and Sandra who first uses a handgun then a machine gun and finally the Psycho-Gun by using the Ultimate Weapon to copy whether weapon it sees. Despite the odds, Cobra and Lady persevered and make it out of the pyramid.

Outside the pyramid, Cobra and Lady see Sandra transforming the Ultimate Weapon to its final form which is a tank. This makes Cobra understand that the Ultimate Weapon has the ability to use any weapon as it is after copying the weapon performance the Ultimate Weapon sees with its own eyes. Lady adds on that in the end, the Ultimate Weapon is completely invincible against any weapons. Soon after, the Ultimate Weapon engages Cobra and Lady in battle. Despite the firepower of the Ultimate Weapon which comprises of dual cannons, missile launchers, Psycho-Guns, "eye" projectiles and laser beams fired from its eye; Cobra and Lady are able to defeat the Ultimate Weapon with Cobra firing the Psycho-Gun which the shot hits its eye. Sandra is killed by the Psycho-shot which causes the Ultimate Weapon to revert to its original form. Upon looking at the Ultimate Weapon, Cobra says that it is only an egg with an eye if no one uses it as a weapon.

In the epilogue, Cobra tries to pick up the Ultimate Weapon when a shadow looms over him.

Story 5: Classic Rival, Crystal Bowie![]

Known as 宿 (しゅく) (てき) !クリスタルボウイ (Shukuteki! Kurisutaru Boui) in the Japanese version. In addition, the word "Crystal" is misspelled as "Cristal" for both versions.

The story starts with Cobra trying to pick up the Ultimate Weapon when a shadow looms over him. Immediately, Cobra turns back to see the Black Ship, flagship of the Pirate Guild protection squadron, over him and he recognises Crystal Bowie inside. Crystal Bowie replies that he and Cobra will have a showdown before the Black Sheep fires a teleportation beam to send the Ultimate Weapon towards it. While the Black Sheep flies away, Lady warns Cobra that Crystal Bowie is escaping. Cobra then calmly says that Crystal Bowie is not escaping because he cannot achieve ambition unless Cobra is defeated. Nevertheless, Cobra and Lady get into the Turtle to pursue the Black Ship. Once in the vast outer space, they have to deal with the space fleet comprising of sentries, small spaceships, "elephant" spaceships and a massive space battleship before reaching the Black Sheep.

With Cobra in front the Black Sheep, Crystal Bowie thinks that he is stupid to take down the Black Sheep with just the Psycho-Gun. Cobra retorts that Crystal Bowie does not know that the power of the Psycho-Gun is proportional to his mental power at use. Soon after, the space battle continues Cobra and Lady having to deal with more spaceships along with the Black Sheep's firepower of two twin turrets and two laser cannons before they can attack the energy core which can fire multiple laser beams. After dealing sufficient damage to the energy core, the Black Sheep suffers from multiple explosions. The Turtle then proceeds to get inside the Black Sheep.

Once inside the Black Sheep, Cobra and Lady easily reached the main room where upon facing the door, Cobra fires the Psycho-Gun to destroy it while dodging a hook fired by Crystal Bowie immediately afterwards. Entering the room, Cobra sarcastically asks Crystal Bowie whether he needs to knock the door. Crystal Bowie calmly replies that there is no need because it is just him and Cobra. Soon, bees appear from behind, forming a humanoid. Consequently, Cobra and Lady have to deal with holographic created soldiers and the bees which can, in addition to the humanoid, transform into various bosses such as Zoros and Cyberwolf before finally transforming into a gigantic hornet which can fire stingers and lasers. Despite the odds, Cobra and Lady defeated all the enemies and make to the freight elevator.

Once on the open freight elevator, Crystal Bowie fires the hook which Cobra and Lady dodged before asking why he needs to defeat Cobra as a proof of his future life. Lady hints that even the tough and immortal Cobra also has shadows of anxiety which could be due to relation between Cobra and Crystal Bowie's past. Soon, the showdown between Cobra and Crystal Bowie begins with Crystal Bowie, in addition to all the abilities he has in the previous battle, can split himself into two (and later when his glass body is damaged, split one more time for a total of three) and summon energy projectiles to surround him. After a difficult fight which is made easier with Cobra firing his prosthetic left arm to damage Crystal Bowie's glass body and reveal his weakpoint, Crystal Bowie is killed and his body shattered.

After the showdown, Lady asks an exhausted Cobra whether it is over. Cobra answers that the showdown is over before being assisted by Lady to get back into the Turtle while the Black Sheep suffers from more explosions. After getting out of the Black Sheep, Cobra and Lady arrived in the vast outer space with the Ultimate Weapon in their possession. After a silent agreement to discard the Ultimate Weapon, Cobra throws it into the vast outer space with its eye closing shortly afterwards.

Trivia[]

  • There are some differences in this game compared to the original manga Cobra and the TV series Space Cobra which are as follows:
    • Gypsydog's face is never revealed in this game whereas it is in the original. In addition, he can hover and teleport whereas he has no special abilities in the original.
    • Turvage controls Catherine in this game whereas he controls Jane in the original.
    • Zoros is vulnerable to the Psycho-shot and is larger in this game whereas he is invulnerable to the Psycho-shot and is smaller in the original.
    • Crystal Bowie's name is written in Katakana as クリスタルボウイ (Kurisutaru Boui) instead of クリスタル・ボーイ (Kurisutaru Bōi). According to Buichi Terasawa, Crystal Bowie's name is a tribute to the late British musician David Bowie whose name, if written in Katakana, is デヴィッド・ボウイ (Deviddo Boui).[1]
  • This is the only game which not only has two different voices for the ACTION word, that word is spoken in a female voice for the 2p side.
  • The Executioners fight is similar to the Wild Dog and Wild Fang fight from Time Crisis 3 while the space carrier along with Ironhead's fight is similar to the V-TOL and Victor Zahn's fight from the same game.
  • The first half of Story 5 Area 2 where players have to battle previous bosses is similar to the boss rush from The House of the Dead, The House of the Dead 2 and the Megaman Series (Rockman Series (ロックマンシリーズ Rokkuman Shirīzu?) in Japan).
  • Most of the Japanese voice actors in this game are from the TV series which had 31 episodes and was aired from 7 October 1982 to 19 May 1983. They are the late Nachi Nozawa, Yoshiko Sakakibara, the late Kiyo'shi Kobayashi, Naoko Kouda, the late Kenji Utsumi, Reiko Tajima, the late Toshiko Fujita, Yuuko Sasaki (using the name () () () (ゆう) () whereas her actual name is () () () (ゆう) () . The reading for both names in rōmaji is the same) and Gara Takashima.
    • Those who are replaced are Chiyoko Kawashima [voice of The Executioners (Black hair)] because she retired in 2001, Keiko Ozaki (voice of Ironhead), and the late Yasuo Tanaka (voice of King Babel) because he passed away on 5 December 2003. Interestingly, Kan Tokumaru voiced Schultz from the TV series and would subsequently pass away on 6 March 2011.
    • Although Nelson Royal (father of the three Royal sisters) is only mentioned in this game as Captain Nelson, his voice actor for the TV series is the late Daisuke Gouri (using his actual name Yoshio Nagahori) who subsequently voiced Jack Mathers, Frank Mathers and the Head of V.S.S.E. from Time Crisis 4.
    • Those who are not from the TV series are Tesshou Genda and Takashi Nagasako. Interestingly, Tesshou Genda voiced Crystal Bowie from Cobra: The Legendary Bandit (コブラII (ツー) : (でん) (せつ) (おとこ) Kobura Tsū: Densetsu no Otoko?) and this game is the first time Zoros is voiced (Zoros is subsequently voiced by Mitsuaki Kanuka in the 2010 TV version).
  • Only Gara Takashima voiced more than one character for the Japanese version. Conversely, Peter Von Gomm voiced only one character for the English version.
