A helicopter in Time Crisis

The Helicopter (ヘリ Heri?), also known as the chopper, is an equipment or weapon (in some cases, both) featured throughout the Time Crisis series. It debuted in the original Time Crisis and has appeared in every subsequent game including its spin-offs.

Main Series[]

Time Crisis[]

Three helicopters resembling Bell UH-1N Twin Huey (the difference between them and actual UH-1Ns is the presence of a single window sliding door used on earlier UH-1 Iroquois variants up to the UH-1C) are used by the Wild Dog Organization and armed with two machine guns. The first one appears in Stage 1 Area 3 and can either be damaged by the player if enough shots are fired or flies off if too much time is elapsed. The second one appears in Stage 3 Area 1 to offload 4 "Normal" class soldiers, 1 Missile man and 1 Grenadier. It subsequently attacks Richard Miller and is shot down by him. The third one is parked on a landing pad and later commandeered by Richard to escape from Sherudo Garo's castle with Rachel MacPherson after Wild Dog is defeated.

Time Crisis: Project Titan[]

The Kantaris Organization has a helicopter resembling a Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin which is used for offloading soldiers to Kantaris' cruise ship. It is subsequently parked on that cruise ship's landing pad and commandeered by Richard to escape from the exploding cruise ship with Marisa Soleil.

Wild Dog also used a helicopter to head to Ricardo Blanco's mansion. It is armed with two rocket pods which are never used. Hovering over the mansion, Wild Dog gunned down Blanco and headed back to his base at Rio Oro. After being defeated by Richard, Wild Dog activated the rest of his Titan army while he escaped via helicopter (the rocket pods are absent on this one). A few well-aimed handgun shots from Richard disabled the helicopter, causing it to crash into the Titans before they managed to reach the surface, destroying them and putting an end to Project Titan.

Time Crisis II[]

There are two types of helicopters used by Neodyne Industries.

  • The first type is a transport helicopter resembling the Boeing CH-47D Chinook which is used to retrieve the satellite from a train and transport it to Neodyne marine base headquarters. In the Arcade version, it is painted in black camouflage; has the marking "NC-13" on the rear rotor housing, fuselage right side and underside; and the words "Neodyne Industries LTD." on the right sponson. In the PlayStation 2 version, it is painted in black camouflage; has the word "Neodyne" on the rear rotor housing, the NDI logo along with the words "Neodyne Industries LTD." and "Technology and service from underground to space. High Quality and relieve our fatigue" on the right sponson; and the word "NDI" on the underside.
  • The second type is helicopter gunships resembling the MD 520N which appear in Stage 2 Area 3 (4 units of which the first two appear in a cutscene protecting a transport helicopter, the third one cannot be shot down and has a yellow suited soldier, and the fourth one is used by Buff Bryant and is destroyed by him via his defeat) and Stage 3 Area 2 (3 units). They are armed with two M202 FLASH rocket launchers which are used in Stage 3 Area 2. V.S.S.E. agents Keith Martin and Robert Baxter commandeered one after shooting two "Normal" class soldiers who are checking to see if they are killed from a bridge destruction which caused two trains to plunge. Said helicopter is later shot down by missiles fired from the Neodyne marine base headquarters. They are also in Crisis Missions such as Day 4 Mission 1 (Keith Martin boards on one and enemy soldiers also appear from other helicopter gunships) and Day 4 Extra Mission.

The V.S.S.E. also used a helicopter resembling the Boeing CH-47D Chinook to pick up V.S.S.E. agents Keith Martin, Robert Baxter and Christy Ryan after the mission to stop Neodyne Industries from launching a nuclear satellite is accomplished. It is painted in gray-ocean camouflage and has a logo identical to the one on Richard Miller's jacket on the underside.

Time Crisis 3[]

Although not a helicopter per se, the Zagorias Federation Army used tlitrotor planes (hereafter referred to as V-TOL) similar to the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. There is one piloted by Victor Zahn which dropped bombs at a wrecked ship V.S.S.E. agents Alan Dunaway and Wesley Lambert are in. It subsequently ambushed the two V.S.S.E. agents when they came out of the wrecked ship and when Alicia Winston saved them by allowing them to jump into her jeep before Zahn could finish them off, pursued the three of them. The V-TOL is eventually destroyed with Zahn's death. The second one appears in a aircraft hangar where a tactical missile warhead is loaded into the cargo hold after Jake Hernandez managed to persuade several soldiers to separate a missile payload and load it into a V-TOL. Just before it is about to take off, Alicia Winston arrived at the aircraft hangar which forced Jake and his men to attempt to stop her. After much fighting, the V-TOL took too much damage, crashed down the cliff (with Jake receiving a headshot from a sniper rifle bullet fired by Alicia prior) and exploded.

The V.S.S.E. also used the V-TOL for Crisis Missions such as Day 3 Mission 3, Day 5 Mission 6 and Final Day Mission 1; the last mission has the V.S.S.E. agents preparing as the mission bosses before jumping off the V-TOL.

The V-TOLs are armed with a chin-mounted General Dynamics GAU-22/A Gatling cannon (they appear in cutscenes and in-game for the Arcade Mode but only appear in a cutscene and in Stage 13 for the "Rescue Mission"), 3 heavy machine guns on the fuselage sides (both sides are used in the Arcade Mode while only the left side is used in Stage 13 for the "Rescue Mission"), and 2 rocket pods attached on the wings (they appear in cutscenes and in-game for the Arcade Mode but only appear in a cutscene and in Stage 13 for the "Rescue Mission". In Crisis Mission Day 3 Mission 3, the rocket pods can turn to face backwards). There is also a loading ramp, one sliding door on each fuselage side and two top hatches.

Time Crisis 4[]

There are two types of helicopters used by the Hamlin Battalion.

  • The first type is modified Bell UH-1N Twin Huey transport helicopters (the modification includes four-blade main and tail rotors similar to those on the Bell UH-1Y Venom) which appear in Chapter 1 of the "Full Mission" where they first shoot at Captain William Rush before offloading soldiers. Later, two of these (one appears at an open area before the train yard and the other appears after Rush gets the key at the harbor management building to unlock the door to a warehouse) can be destroyed. They are armed with a chin-mounted M3P .50 cal machine gun.
  • The second type is modified Bell OH-58C Kiowa armed helicopters ( () (そう) ヘリ Busou heri?) which appear in the Prologue/Chapter 2 (1 unit), Stages 1 Area 2/Chapter 4 (20 units) and Stage 3 Area 1/Chapter 11 (8 units), and Chapters 6 (2 units) and 7 (2 units) of the "Full Mission". They are armed with a chin-mounted M3P .50 cal machine gun and 2 M261 launchers with Hydra 70 rockets on the stub wings. The one in the Prologue/Chapter 2 has a "Leader" class soldier who appears in a dazed condition while exiting from the crashed helicopter.

Rush and the National Guard soldiers also used transport helicopters which are the same as those used by the Hamlin Battalion but without the chin-mounted machine gun and instead armed with a door-mounted mounted machine gun and an automatic cannon in-game.

Time Crisis 5[]

There are two types of helicopters used by the Wild Dog Organization.

  • The first type is a transport helicopter resembling a Sikorsky UH-60 fitted with a Target Acquisition and Designation System at the front. There of two of these which the first one is reportedly taken on by a V.S.S.E. helicopter, shot down and crashed into a Wild Dog's resort hotel; and the second one is parked at Wild Dog's factory helipad.
  • The second type is attack helicopters which appear in Stage 2 Areas 1 (7 units) and 2 (2 units), and Stage 3 Area 2 (3 units). In addition, they also appear in Stage 3 Area 3 in parked configuration but cannot be shot by player 2 as they only appear in his/her view. They are armed with 2 M261 launchers with Hydra 70 rockets and the projectiles can be shot down. Those in Stage 2 Areas 1 and 2 have "Shark Teeth" nose art while those in Stage 3 Areas 2 and 3 are simply painted silver but are also armed with one chin-mounted and one tail boom-mounted M197 Gatling cannon.

Like in Time Crisis II, the V.S.S.E. also used helicopters which are piloted by Catherine Ricci to provide air support for next-generation V.S.S.E. agents Luke O'Neil and Marc Godart. The first helicopter used a coaxial rotors design, is armed with two M2 Browning machine guns on each side and has storage space for two motorcycles which the V.S.S.E. rookie agents used to pursue Wild Dog after he damaged it with a Pansarskott m/86 missile. Later, Catherine used another helicopter which resembles the transport helicopter used by the Wild Dog Organization but is also armed with a chin-mounted M197 Gatling cannon. She later used it to ram against a missile containing a drug stolen by Robert.

Spin-Offs[]

Crisis Zone[]

There are two types of helicopters used by the U.R.D.A. and both appearing in Garland Park.

  • The first type is a large attack helicopter resembling a Boeing–Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche. It is armed with a chin-mounted XM301 three-barrelled Gatling cannon, two retractable missile launchers firing four missiles each on the sides, two large missiles which are only used for destroying the open linkways of a floating pavilion and never used against the player; and a bomb bay for dropping small bombs. Its rotors can be utilized to try and cut the player. In the PlayStation 2 version, it resembles a Mil Mi-24 with the tail fin facing down and armed with the same weapons like its Arcade counterpart.
  • The second type is gyro helicopters which are armed with a chin-mounted M197 three-barrelled Gatling cannon. In the Arcade version, they have two types of camouflage. The first is yellow-green which there are seven units and the seventh unit has a "Leader" class soldier which gets off from it. The second is red which there are two units. In the PlayStation 2 version, they have only one camouflage and resemble the large attack helicopter.

The Special Tactical Force (S.T.F.) also used a helicopter resembling a Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight to transport Claude McGarren and S.T.F. operatives to Grassmarket District to annihilate the U.R.D.A. remnants. It is also used by McGarren to pursue Jared Hunter who escaped in an armed cruiser.

Razing Storm[]

Helicopters are used by the enemy to attack S.C.A.R. Alpha team operatives when they rappel down a building after a Scorpion Boss destroyed the roof top. They are armed with a laser gun on each door side. Prior to this, a helicopter resembling a modified Bell UH-1N Twin Huey transport helicopter ambushed a three-vehicle convoy at Mona Darta which killed some operatives. Said helicopter is shot down by a vehicle mounted cannon fired by Casey (Zack (ザック Zakku?) in the Japanese version).

A similar helicopter but armed with machine guns is used by the S.C.A.R. Alpha team to provide cover to the pathfinder operated by Bravo team until it is shot down by a missile fired by a Kraken (Long Leg (ロング・レッグ Rongu Reggu?) in the Japanese version) and crashed at Hotel Diamante. Prior to this, a destroyed helicopter appears in Lixeira. Finally, a helicopter is used to pick up the S.C.A.R. operatives along with the leaders King, Hunt and Casey at Girasol Factory.

Trivia[]

  • Time Crisis: Project Titan is the only game which the helicopter is not used as a weapon despite the rocket pods on Wild Dog's first helicopter.
  • Crisis Zone is the only game which the helicopter appears as a boss in one of the zones.
