The Melee Weapon is weapon featured throughout the Time Crisis series. It debuted in the original Time Crisis and has appeared in every subsequent game including its spin-offs.
Overview[]
The melee weapon, as it name implies, is a handheld weapon that is used in hand-to-hand combat but can also be used as a throwing weapon. Due to the nature of the Time Crisis series, V.S.S.E. agents are not issued with melee weapons and melee attacks are not done by the players when taking control of them in-game. However, melee weapons have been used as enemy weapons as early as Time Crisis be it as a close or ranged weapon. In addition, using firearms as melee weapons have also been executed by both enemies and allies. E.g. in Crisis Zone, a U.R.D.A. "Leader" class soldier used his submachine gun as a melee weapon in Garland Park and in Time Crisis 5, melee attacks are executed by V.S.S.E. agents Luke O'Neil and Marc Godart when they used their handguns as melee weapons to knock out two Wild Dog Organization "Normal" class drudges from the back.
Use by Non-V.S.S.E. protagonists[]
Similarly to the V.S.S.E. agents, the Special Tactical Force (S.T.F.) operatives are not issued with any melee weapons. Alicia Winston does not use any melee weapons when executing melee attacks on Zagorias Federation Army soldiers. William Rush however, is issued with a knife (ナイフ naifu ) as a melee weapon which he had to use it in an area of the Air Force Base underground facility filled with flammable gas to defeat the Hamlin Battalion soldiers before finding the valve to turn off the gas. The Strategic Combat and Rescue organization (S.C.A.R.) operatives are not issued with any melee weapons and any melee attacks from Delta 1 is done by punching. However, S.C.A.R. Alpha team operative Shin used his machine gun as a melee weapon to knock out a Renegade Soldier.
Gameplay[]
The melee weapon is a hand-to-hand combat weapon. Hence, its range is drastically much less than any firearm and requires the player to get up close to do damage. As it does not use any ammunition however, it has unlimited uses and does not need to reload. Its damage against enemy soldiers vary with "Normal" class soldiers going down in one hit but other soldier classes requiring more.
